Bullying can lead to physical injury, social problems, emotional problems, and even death. Children and adolescents who are bullied are at increased risk for mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, headaches, and problems adjusting to school. Bullying also can cause long-term damage to self-esteem. The people who are bullied electronically are at higher risk of depression than any others. School bullying statistics in the United States show that about one in four kids in the U.S. are bullied on a regular basis. Between cyber bullying and bullying at school, the school bullying statistics illustrate a huge problem with bullying and the American school system. When it comes to verbal bullying, this type of bullying is the most common type with about 77 percent of all students being bullied verbally in some way or another including mental bullying or even verbal abuse. Bullying is a public health concern because it is not targeted at any race or gender it happens to everybody so it is a public concern to all parents. In my opinion to combat bullying in schools is to get teachers, principals and administrators more involved and not tolerated bullying of any kind. They should have punishments that will make students learn that bullying is just not allowed and tolerated. The schools should also have professional help for the students that have suffered bullying to get them back to live a healthy and happy life. The parents should report any bullying signs that they see from their child and schools should take those signs as a priority and prevented any further bullying. I should also stand up for students that get bully and also be friends of the new people and help out the students that are target for bullying and feel lonely.
